A biotech company in Cambridge is seeking a Controller to join their team. The company is thriving and the incumbent should have experience working in a growing company. This role will help develop, lead and manage the accounting/finance operations and financial reporting for the company. The Controller will lead all aspects of the company’s accounting operations including general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets and technical accounting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage accounting operations, including maintaining a system of accounting records/policies and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance accuracy.
- Ensure that the company’s accounting procedures and reported results conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Serve as technical accounting resource for the organization. Document and review technical accounting assessments and conclusions in memos for management and auditors.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements.
- Ensure financial reporting compliance with the company’s strategic partners.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- Manage the payroll and accounts payable processes.
- Participate in independent valuations and year end independent financial statement audit.
- Oversee external tax advisors to ensure compliance with required tax filings and preparation of tax provisions.
- Lead ad hoc finance projects as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA.
- 6+ years of relevant experience required.
- Must have experience in a publicly-traded company.
- Big 4 public accounting experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience with SEC reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to support a fast-growing business.
- Proven capability to work effectively across multiple functions.
- Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution oriented.
- Excellent presentation, communication, management, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential.
- Ability to think long term and strategically.
